TRU – Men’s Volleyball Loses Home Opener to Dinos

It wasn’t home sweet home for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack as they opened  up the home portion of their Canada West men’s volleyball season.

The Pack were swept in straight sets by the University of Calgary Dinos on Friday night (Oct 25) at the Tournament Capital Centre.The scores were 27-25,25-21,27-25. The Dinos move to 2-1 on the year while the Pack are winless in three starts.
 
 SYNOPSIS

The WolfPack got off to a great start in the first set and went into the technical time out 16-15.  But Calgary methodically chipped away at the Pack and won the first set. 

In the second set, the Dinos led 11-8 at one point and went into the tech time out up by two (16-14).

The third set saw  Charlie Bringloe  (5th year, outside hitter, Waterloo, ON) go on a serving run where he brought TRU to a six point advantage. But the Dinos whittled it down to one and eventually took the lead to win the match.

Liam Kuppe  (3rd year, outside hitter, Calgary, A) had 10 kills on 23 attempts.  Tomas Sorra (3rd year, setter, Toronto, ON)  had 20 assists and 10 digs.  Mitchell Higgin  (5th year, middle, Calgary, AB) had four service aces

Nimo Benne had 11 kills in 31 swings for the Pack . He added a team high eight digs..  Anton Napolitano (4th year, setter, Victoria, AUS) had 26 assists, six digs and three service aces. Bringloe had seven kills in 22 opportunities with two service aces.

The match marked the debut of Corbin Ockerman (1st year, middle, Elk Point, AB) in Canada West. He replaced the injured Kyle Behiels (5th year, middle, Edmonton, AB).

OF NOTE:   The “Den”  Leader of the Pack player of the match was Bringloe.  There was a large crowd on hand at the Tournament Capital Centre as the WolfPack are hosting a senior boys high school tournament this weekend.
