TRU – Women’s Volleyball Put Unbeaten Streak On Line vs Calgary

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team is making their home debut this weekend and looking to stay unbeaten.
The WolfPack enter week two of the 2019-20 Canada West regular season hosting the University of Calgary Dinos.  The teams play Friday and Saturday (Oct 25-26) on the championship court at the Tournament Capital Centre.  Match times both nights will be 5 PM.

DETAILS:

Calgary:  lost their opening weekend series against Saskatchewan at home and are 0-2.
 TRU:  beat the Bobcats in Brandon in the opening weekend of league play winning 3-1 the first night and 3-2 the second
 
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST BETWEEN TRU AND THE TWO SIDES:

The WolfPack opened the 2018-19 Canada West season playing the Dinos at the Jack Simpson gym in Calgary on October 19 th and 20th.   Calgary won in straight sets both nights. On Friday, October 19th the scores were 25-20,25-10,25-20.  Olga Savenchuk (outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) made her Canada West debut and led the WolfPack with 10 kills.  Kenzie Vaandering led Calgary with nine kills.
The following night, Calgary won 25-14,25-19-25-23.  Savenchuk had nine kills for the WolfPack while Kendra Finch added eight kills.  Kate Pexman paced the Dinos with 15 kills while Hanna Tanasichuk had seven kills.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

TRU: Kendra Finch (5th year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC)  leads the Canada West in kills with 39. She is third in the league in kills per set (4.33) and sits fifth in Canada West in digs (31).
Ksenya Kocyigit (1st year, middle, Byaroza, Belarus)  is second in the Canada West in blocks per set (1.56)
Avery Pottle (4th year, outside hitter, Uxbridge, ON): has moved from middle to the outside and has 19 kills in five sets (she played the second match of the year vs Brandon only),  with 10 digs, a solo block and a block assist.

Calgary:  Beth Vinnell  ( 5th year, middle, Cochrane, AB)  is fourth in the Canada West in hitting percentage (.314) and  tied for third in blocks per set (1.43).
Kate Pexman (5th year, outside hitter, Calgary, AB): Canada West all-star who was sadly injured in the post season. Has yet to see the floor in 2019-20.
Kennedy Snape (5th year, libero, Kelowna, BC) has played all seven sets the Dinos have been in this regular season she has a team leading 24 digs five assists.
