For the first time this season, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team is into the USPORTS top ten national rankings.
The WolfPack have a league record of 7-1 and are now into the rankings as the number ten team in the nation. The rankings are based on a system called ELO. Thompson Rivers has an ELO of 1629.37.
This is the first time in school history that the WolfPack women’s program has been nationally ranked. They have had honorable mentions a few times in the past.
Says head coach Chad Grimm, ” I am happy for the girls and the program for earning our first entry into the Top 10 in program history. It has been a long road from where we started and took a lot of players, coaches, volunteers and staff, both past and present, for us to reach the upper echelon of teams in the country. Although the recognition is nice and helps to validate the work we are doing as a group, we also realize that these rankings don’t change anything and our focus remains on our next opponent as our main concern is how we are ranked at the end of the season. “
The Trinity Western University Spartans are the new number one team in the nation with an ELO of 1817.55. They have won all eight matches they have played this season. Ryerson is second followed by Dalhousie.
Other Canada West teams in the top ten rankings are the Mount Royal Cougars sitting in fifth spot. The Cougars are 10-0 and have an ELO of 1699.95.The UBC Thunderbirds are sitting in eighth spot after not being ranked the previous week. The T-Birds are 5-3 and with an ELO of 1639.97.
UBC will host the WolfPack for two matches this week (Nov 22 and 23) in Vancouver, BC.
