New Concussion in Volleyball Resources

September 22-28, 2024 is National Concussion Awareness Week – and we are excited to launch our new concussion resources for players, parents, coaches, referees and administrators.

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury that occurs when there is a hit to the head, face, neck or anywhere on the body with forces transmitted to the brain. Concussions can happen in any sport, including volleyball. It is very important that we all take concussion and head injury seriously.

As part of our commitment to safe sport, we have worked with Kids Physio Group to develop these resources to support all participants in understanding how to recognise, manage, and ensure the safe return to play after a concussion.

where should i start?

Players and Parents:

  • Check out the “Concussion Info Sheet” and “Pre-Season Concussion Education Sheet” as a good starting point to understanding concussion.

Coaches, Club Administrators, and Referees:

  • “Concussion Info and Protocol” covers all elements of concussion identification, management, & return to play.
  • Use the “Concussion Emergency Action Plan” as a handy court-side guide to know what to do if a concussion occurs.
  • The “Return to Play Guidelines” outline the stages a participant should follow if they experience a concussion.
  • Consider getting athletes and guardians to read and sign off on the “Pre-Season Concussion Education Sheet”.
  • The Medical Assessment Letter and the Medical Clearance Letter are templates for you to use for medical professional support.
  • VBC Concussion Incident Report Form is a form for you to record any incident that occurs where there may be a concussion.
