We welcome your interest in getting involved with Volleyball BC!
 
As a non-profit organization, Volleyball BC’s board of directors plays a key role in guiding our long‑term vision and ensuring we stay true to our mission. Our Board members provide strategic leadership, support financial sustainability, and are accountable to our members.  In addition, we also have a number of committees that focus on specific areas and support key priorities.  Below you can find more information about the Board and Committees that help keep us strong, focused, and community‑driven.

Board Of Directors

Volleyball BC has a policy-based and governance-focused board, which hires a Chief Executive Officer to implement policy and lead the operations the organization. The Board is accountable to its members – the competitive players, coaches and referees who are voting members of Volleyball BC.

Volleyball BC has 7-9 Directors on the Board: 7 elected Directors serve terms of two years, up to 2 appointed Directors serve a term of one year.

Volleyball BC is committed to encouraging diversity, inclusion, equity and access in its administration and governance. Part of this is encouraging equitable representation on the Board and Committees. This includes:

  • Representation from small and large membership regions.
  • Representation that reflects the gender, ethnic and social diversity of British Columbia.
  • Representation from a diverse variety of volleyball experiences, skill sets, and backgrounds.

Process for Nominations

Volleyball BC’s AGM takes place in May each year.  Before each AGM, we put out a Call for Nominations for the Board.  In 2026, we were seeking candidates for these positions on the VBC Board of Directors:

  • Vice-President (2-year term) – responsible for the documentation of all amendments to the Society’s By-Laws, will be responsible for the documentation of all policies approved by the Board, will cause to be recorded the minutes of all meetings of the Board and Members, will give due notice to all Members of the meeting of the Members of the Society, and will perform such other duties as may from time to time be established by the Board.
  • Athlete Representative (2-year term) – represents the interests of the high performance athletes in any Board discussions that affect high performance training, competition, hosting and/or the ability of the athletes to perform, will liaison between high performance athletes and the Board, and will ensure that communication takes place between high performance athletes regarding issues of interest and impact to the high performance programs.
  • Member-at-Large (2-year term) 

Volleyball BC has a skills-based and governance Board. For 2026, we particularly welcomed individuals with the following skills and experience:

  • Government and partner relations (municipal, provincial)
  • Philanthropy and sponsorship

In addition to Board members, we also welcome expressions of interest from individuals interested in being involved in one of our Committees.  Being on a Committee is a rewarding way to support volleyball in BC, develop new skills and relationships, and decide whether you might be interested in getting involved on the Board. Please see below the list of Committees that are open for membership.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by completing and submitting the application form to nominations@volleyballbc.org by the deadline set before each AGM.

A Nominations Committee reviews all nominations and communicates them to members in advance of the Annual General Meeting.

The following Committees are open for membership:

  • Awards Committee
  • Pacific Volleyball Society Board – note: this is a partnership Board established by Volleyball BC, the Richmond Olympic Oval, and Volleyball Canada to support the Women’s National Team in Richmond

Volleyball BC has two types of Committee to support the work of the organization:

  1. Board Committees – these are standing committees that provide counsel and advice to the Board in areas of Board responsibility. Volleyball BC has two Board Committees:
    Finance and Audit Committee
    HR and Governance Committee

  2. Operational Committees – These committees establish program guidelines, procedures, and rules in mandated areas of activity that support management. All Committees listed are operational Committees or Working Groups, apart from the Finance and Audit Committee and HR and Governance Committee.
