Volleyball BC was saddened to learn of the passing of Alex Garneau under tragic circumstances last week and our hearts go out to her family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time.
Alex is remembered for the lasting impact she made on volleyball in the province, both as a player for Prince George Secondary School, a Team BC Alumni player, and the Capilano University Women’s Team (2005-2008), and as a coach for the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club.
Her success in the sport began in high school, where she captured back-to-back BC AAAA Championships with PGSS, enjoyed several successful seasons with her club team and was named to Team BC, paving the way for a post-secondary career at Cap U.
In her four seasons with the Blues, she helped lead the team to the 2007 CCAA National Silver Medal, as well as a Provincial silver and bronze medal, while being named a provincial All-Star for the 2006-07 Season.
Following her university career, Alex remained involved in the sport as a player in adult leagues and tournaments, and later as a coach with Prince George Youth Volleyball Club.
She is remembered by those who knew her as a fierce competitor, hard worker and dedicated mother, coach, teammate and friend.
Volleyball BC offers our condolences to Alex’s friends and family and the sport community she was an integral part of.
